My Budo experience
By Ntambi John Waswa
My name is John Waswa Ntambi and I am writing about my Budo experience. I live in Madison, Wisconsin which is a state in the central part of the United States . I have grown up in America my entire life but both of my parents are Ugandans and for one term my parents wanted me to go to Budo which was the school my Dad went to many years ago. My parents wanted me to go so that I could get a good experience. I am 14 years old so I was put in S2 in Nigeria house. From the very first day I began going to school I was in day school because in America there are very few boarding schools. The school I go to is called Hamilton Middle School.
The first day I entered the gates of Budo I knew this experience was going to be difficult for me because I had never been away from family for longer than 2 weeks. I also realized I had a lot of things I had to get used to for instance I had to get used to being in a completely different school environment. I also had to get used to Luganda lessons because I can only speak a little bit of luganda even though both of my parents are Baganda. But other then those things I really didn’t have anything else I really needed to get used to.
The most difficult things I had to adjust to were mostly my exams. This was because they were very tough and had many questions that had to do with things that were taught in there S1 and I didn’t know this stuff because I wasn’t here in S1. Another thing that was very difficult was waking up every morning at around 6:00A.M this was hard because in the morning to go to school in America I have to wake up at around 7:00A.M. Other then those difficulties this experience had been pretty nice.
Now the things I loved most about Budo have been playing on the basketball team because usually I play with guys around my age. I enjoyed going to canteen everyday and buying sweet pepsi, PK gum, and ice cream. Entertainment and house fellowship have also been things I have really loved. I also have liked how many knew friends I had made. But even though I had many good experiences there was also times were I just had to go home.
The Budo experience also has taught me a lot of things that I had never done before for instance I learned how to wash my clothes by hand, I learned how to scrub and do house work, I learned how to slash, and I also learned how to live with so many people. This experience has also taught me to really miss my parents because I used to see them everyday.
After this term is over I would like to come back to Budo again sometime later in the future for one term so that I can be with the friends I made in this term and so that I can see the changes that had been made to Budo since the last time I was here. |
