STAFF DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR

The beginning of the year Staff Workshop was held on 27th January 2010 at Kingdom Resort Katomi on Entebbe Road. All members of the teaching staff and non teaching staff attended.The workshop which lasted the whole day was facilitated by Dr. Muyinda Mande, the Academic Registrar, Nkumba University.

The Topics were:

  1. Decision Making and Planning
  2. Setting of Tests

In his opening remarks the Headmaster used the opportunity to introduce to the participants the theme of the year: ‘Consolidating Team Work’. He emphasized team talk and team walk. He noted that 60% of success lies in planning. He also reminded them of the mission and vision of the school.

 

Mr. John Beijuka, a member of the Parents and Teachers Association, and of the Board of  Governors of King’s College, Budo, presided over the closing ceremony on behalf of the Parent Teachers’ Association and the Board of Governors. The participants were awarded certificates of attendance.

1.0       GREETINGS:

Warm greetings from King’s College, Budo in the name of our Lord Jesus
Christ!  We have ended Term 1, 2010 successfully.

 

2.0       APPRECIATION:

We thank you for every support and cooperation throughout the term.  Thank you for paying the school fees and supporting the children.  Thank you for attending school functions especially the Founders’ Day, Senior 4 and Senior 6 Class Days.

 

3.0       OBITUARY:

We continue to lose our loved ones.  May God grant us appropriate Grace and fortitude.  Among the recently departed are the following:

  • Nakidde Lighton 6M/Sabaganzi House lost her father.
  • Atimaku  Lynet 1B/Grace House lost her father.
  • Kagazi Andrew 6C/Australia House lost his father.
  • Odongo Marvin 5A/South Africa House lost his father
  • Rev. Laban Bombo (Former Chaplain) served the school for 37years.
  • Mrs. Elizabeth Sekamwa (Former Teacher – History/Geography) served the school for 29 years.
  • Mr. Kenneth Sserunkuma(Librarian) served the school for 28 years.
  • Mr. John Kahamaraka (Foreman) served the school for 22 years.
  • Mrs. Mary Sendi (BOG Member) lost her mother.

5.2              Academic Issues

5.2.1    SENIOR 1/2010 ADMISSION

Boys were admitted at Agg 5 and girls at Agg 6.

 

5.2.2   SENIOR 5/2010 ADMISSION

  • Boys were admitted at Agg11 and girls at Agg13
  • 25 old students, 13 of them girls, were admitted back on the Ministry of Education and Sports list.
  • This is compared to 8 in 2008. The improvement is attributed to the good discipline and hard work of the team of 2009.

 

 5.2.3 UCE 2009 RESULTS   

The results were very good and we thank God, the students, the parents, and the members of teaching and non teaching staff.

  • 191= Div 1 (97.9%) and 04=Div 2, out of a total of 195 candidates.
  • This is compared to 88.7% Div 1 in 2008.
  • 8 students (all boys) scored 8 Agg in 8 subjects: Byarugaba Isaac, Gaamuwa Mwesigwa Isaac, Komakech Joshua, Mayanja Joshua, Mugyenyi Joel, Mukose John William, Ssenyonga Robin  Nyombi(10 Agg. in 10), Suruma Freeman Joshua.
  • This is compared to two students in 2008.

 

5.2.4   UACE 2009 RESULTS

The results were very good and we thank God, the students, the parents, and the members of teaching and non teaching staff.

  • 9 students, 3 of them girls, scored 25 points: Balya Justine HEL/Music, Gashumba Ngabo HEG/French, Mpagi James HEGD, Mwaka Jeremiah HEG/German, Edigu Martin MEG/TD, Humura Rachel MEG/TD, Namutosi Norah MEG/French, Sevume Samson PEM/TD, and Kirya Simon PCM/Economics.
  • This is compared to three students in 2008.  114 out of 145 students scored 20 points and above.

      

5.4       CAREER GUIDANCE

  •  
    • Class days were held this term for S.4 and S.6 A number of issues  raised  are being addressed    
    • The Careers Exhibition was held on 21st April 2010.

 

 

5.5       STUDENT TRIPS

  • S6 Geography and Biology Class- Study Trip to Mombasa 23rd April – 2nd May 2010.
  • Scouts and Debate Caravan – Western Uganda 9th August- 13th August 2010.

 

5.6       BROOKS SCHOOL EXCHANGE PROGRAMME: 

  • Sarah Crockett and Madeleine Parrish were at King’s College, Budo from

21st February, 2010  to  1st April, 2010.

  • In return, Naiga Margaret 5A/HELF/Grace House and

Mukose John William  5C/PCME/England House are in the USA from 1st April to  1st June, 2010.

 

 

6.0       CO-CURRICULA ACTIVITIES

The students have continued to actively participate in co-curricula activities.

 

6.1      Cricket

  • The girls’ cricket team participated in the Cricket Week from 18th April – 21st April, 2010.

 

6.2     Rugby

  • The school participated in the Coca Cola School Rugby National Competitions in the U18, U16 and U14 categories.  We emerged National Champions for the U18 category.We shall represent Uganda in the July/August East African Secondary School Games in Nakuru, Kenya.
  • The U14 played in a Coca Cola sponsored tournament on April 20, 2010 and finished 4th  out of 6 teams.

 

6.3       Hockey

  • The school participated in the National Schools Easter Tournament. The Girls’ Team were the winners and the boys’ team were beaten at the finals by City High School.

 

6.4       Music Dance and Drama

This year’s Inter House Music Dance and Drama Competition was held on 21/3/10 and Grace House emerged winners, Sabaganzi House came second and Mutesa House in third position.

 

7.0       HEALTH:

The health situation has been normal and there has been no epidemic in the school.

  • We thank God for the Parent Doctors and Visiting Doctor and the Sickbay Staff who have attended to the students. 

 

8.0       DISCIPLINE:

  • The discipline has continued to be good on the whole. We have continued to work with the parents and to counsel the students generally and specifically.
  •  We appeal to you as team members to continue guiding our children especially on care for self and property.
  •  In addition we need to train our children against acts which may cause bodily harm to others.
  • With affect from second term 2010, students will not be allowed to boil or to have equipment to boil water. Therefore do not give your child an electric kettle or percolator and those found in possession of these items will be excluded from school.

 

You are reminded to go through the School Regulations again concerning phones, flat irons, etc.

 

 

9.0       SCHOOL CHARGES:

  • We once again apologise for the inconveniences you faced in the just ended term as a result of the mistake made in the figures. We thank you for your cooperation in this matter.  For further clarification, see the Bursar or Deputy in charge of Fees.

N.B

1. No cash will be accepted at the school.

3. Payment by Bank Draft will bear a bank charge of Shs.5000 to be born by the parent.

4. Make sure you have enough funds on your Account before – 15th May, 2010 to make it easier for EFT processing.

JICA PATNERSHIP

Ms.Shiori Okabe left for Japan on Tuesday 18 August 2009. She has spent one year at Budo teaching Music. During her stay she fully participated in the activities of the school. On Sports day she was part of the female teachers’ 100 x 4 relay team. On 8 August 2009,with the help of other volunteers from Japan, she organised a Japanese Cultural Exhibition at the school. The staff said farewell to her at the end of term.She is appreciated for traning the students in singing. Ms. Ikue has replaced her.
