ACADEMIC

SENIOR 1 CURRICULUM.
Following the Ministry of Education and Sports circular concerning the Revised Curriculum, with effect from second term this year, we are offering the following subjects to Senior 1 students are studying the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Christian Religious Education, Art, French\German, Literature, Entrepreneurship Skills, Luganda, Technical Drawing and Physical Education.

STUDENTS TRIPS:
A group of S4 Entrepreneurship Skills students attended had a study trip to ‘Erimu Company Limited’ and ‘Bbira Vocational School” on 3rd July 2009.

AWARDS\ACHIEVEMENTS
Ocailap Simon Peter 4B came second in the URA National Schools’ Speech Competition. The school received a new computer and certificate while the student received a night in a five star hotel and a certificate.

GAMES AND SPORTS:
Rugby
• The school received a scrum machine donated by ‘Engineering Solutions’
• 7 students- Cadri nelson 6C, Okot Michael 6A, Opio Matthew 6C, Zimbe Pafula 5C, Magoola Perez 6C, Seruyange Keith 5C, Bakashab Cliff 6A, and Ouma Christopher 6A have been invite do play for Uganda in the Confederation of African Rugby Under 19 Tournament to be played in September 2009 in Nairobi.
• The School Rugby Team was the most disciplined school team in 2008. We got a Plaque, 50 Crates of Soda and UShs 300,000 cash prize.
Hockey

• King’s College, Budo are the National Secondary School Champions 2009\2010 for both boys and girls. We congratulate the teams. The boys’ team beat our perennial rivals City High School 1-0, and the gilrs’ team beat Gayaza High
Schools in an entertaining penalty shoot out.

Sports Day
The School’s Sports Day was held on 27th July 2009. The Guest of Honour was
Mrs. Roset Lubwama Kebba.

The Overall winner Boys was South Africa House and Sabaganzi House for the girls. We heartily congratulate them.

The following items were donated to the school..

• Kebba Family :- 2 big wall clocks, 2 Volley balls, 2 Base balls, 2 Basket balls, 2 Rugby balls, 6 Cricket balls.
• National Council of Sports :- 7 Footballs, 2 Netballs
• City Tyres :- 10 Footballs, 20 T-Shirts ( for the staff)
• MTN Uganda :- 20 Vuvuzelas
• Hon Peter Nyombi :- 2 Bulls
• Dr hannington Sengendo:- Football goal nets worth UShs. 200,000
• Mr.Jack Sembatya Dungu:- Ushs 300,000 to Sabaganzi House
• Dr. Ezra Suruma :- to lead the team to buy sports shoes for Ghana House.

We are grateful to Mrs.Kebba and all the other parents and well wishers who made donations to the school, to the individual houses and all those who turned up on that day.

SECURITY:
The Uganda Police carried out an inspection focusing security and conducted a fire sensitisation exercise and carried out a general inspection of the school on 10th June 2009.

STAFF WELFARE
• The Staff Thanksgiving Service was held on 26th July 2009. The teaching and non teaching staff and support staff were extremely grateful for the token of appreciation given to them by the Board of Governors and Parent Teachers Association .

Norway Teachers Exchange Program

• Mr. Peter Senyimba (Mathematics/Economics) and Mr. Geoffrey Kizito (Technical Subjects) came back from Norway on 24th July 2009.
• Anja and Henrick left for Norway on 6th July 2009 after a year with us.

FREDSKORPSET (PEACE CORPORATION) REPORT FOR THE EXCHANGE BETWEEN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION UGANDA AND TELEMARK COUNTY NORWAY UPPER SECONDARY SCHOOLS 2008/2009.

The period of operation was between September 2008 and July 2009.
Areas of participation
We were involved in both curricular and co-curricular activities in schools and the Norwegian society affiliated.

Contributions to the Norwegian Institutions.
• Confidence building in English Language speaking and writing among the students and staff members.
• Through team teaching (co-teaching) there has been expanded competence in teaching methodologies.
• Spreading awareness about cultural values, norms and beliefs within the schools and the society in general thus changing perceptions of masses about Africa and Uganda in particular. E.g. one student made a remark “After interacting with you I have realized that Uganda is not as bad as I thought”.
• Participated as guest speakers at Fredskorpset conferences about “how south participants can contribute to Norwegian institutions” and “how best to carry oneself during an exchange in a foreign country”.
• Served as resourceful persons in various workshops on global issues such as HIV/AIDS, poverty, underdevelopment and school system in Uganda.
• We have been integral members in games and sports and encouraged students to develop their talents to professional levels. E.g. Skiing, volley ball and soccer.
• Played an active role in the teaching of various disciplines which include; Electricity, Construction, Mathematics, Economics and English Language.
• Integration with local community through taking part in the Tinn Gospel Choir.

Lessons learnt.
• A lot of emphasis is put on skills training using an approach of learning by doing. Skill based workers are not looked down upon but rather highly respected.
• The education system is based on the analysis of facts and diverse opinions are expected which promotes independent thinking.
• Respect for persons irrespective of colour, property and the environment by emphasizing the value of equality for all.
• Recycling of waste is part of daily life.
• Improvisation in finding solutions to problems through the use of the available resources, according to the circumstance and time.
• Prudent use of available resources and servicing of old equipment to ensure their use for a longer time.
• A cordial relationship between students and teachers provides a conducive learning atmosphere.
• Project works tasked to the students in vocational studies are a huge motivator in the learning process.

Plans for the future.
• Advocacy to emulate Norwegian style in vocational training and work out a possibility of a pilot project in Uganda.
• Our intention is to embark on waste recycling project at our school and the neighboring society to protect our environment against abuse.
• Make better use of the computer skills acquired in teaching process through making power point presentations, searching information on the internet in line with topics taught at a given time.

Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

• Ms.Okabe Shiori ( Music) will be leaving at the end of second term after a year with us.
• We shall receive Ms. Ikue (Music) on 8th July 2009.She will stay with us for two years.

Brooks Students Exchange Program

• Kalunda Yosiya S5/PCM/MUS and Kizza Connie Joloba S5/MEG/ TD came back from Brooks School, USA on 1st June 2009.

Libraries of Love
• Libraries of Love, USA donated 12 – 12″ World Globes, 1 - 16″ World Globe, and 5 World Wall maps to the school.

PROJECTS/WORKSThe New Library
• The New Library was commissioned on 7th July 2009. The occasion was preceded by a Service presided over by the Bishop of Namirembe Diocese , The Rt Rev. Wilberforce Kityo. The Guest of Honour for the day was His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II who was represented by Owek. Tony Kiyimba Kaggwa.
• The following people were recognized for their selfless service to the Library Project: Eng Patrick Batumbya (Project Manager), Arch Isaac. Nyabwana, Mr. David Kyagulanyi Ntwatwa (Quantity Surveyor), Owek Hajji Kaddu Kiberu, Eng Sam Sentongo (Electrical Engineer) and posthumously Dr Suleiman Kigundu.
• UShs 10, 170,000 was raised in cash and pledges towards furnishing the library.

OBITUARY

Our condolesences go to the families who have lost their loved ones. May the Almighty God grant them his comfort and peace.
